MAKER STORIES // June of Junettie
Growing up in a musical family and being a musician myself, I was always grateful for the artistic side of me. But it wasn’t until later in my teenage years that I transferred my musical talent to crafting. I first learned knitting through my cousin. She taught me the basic skill and I made my first scarf. Like many teenagers I got bored very fast at the idea of knitting, so one scarf was all I made!
It wasn’t until just a few years ago that knitting came back into my life. A friend of mine was expecting a baby and I thought to myself that it would be nice to knit a blanket for the baby. I wanted to give an original gift. From there I went crazy knitting and got completely addicted to it. I started knitting, knitting and knitting! Then I thought to myself, what am I going to do with all the items I’ve made? That is when I started exploring selling my handmade items on Etsy. I was super excited to launch my shop and share my creation with handmade lovers. The first couple years of my business—I called it the “hobby business”—was a learning curve. It was so much harder than I anticipated. Also, my vision for my “hobby business” was all over the place! I was just knitting what I believed that would bring in revenue which I didn’t really enjoy doing.
But last year in 2017, I decided to focus on my design and creating a collection to represent my brand. My vision is the create items with quality and comfort. I use wools for all of my hand knit products. Wools are comfortable to wear and keep you cozy. I am super happy with the decision and my ideas for the winter 2018 collection are running wild. I am knitting and creating like crazy and I cannot wait to show it off, but until then I hope my shoppers love my cozy designs.
A fun fact about me is that I am a full time flight attendant so my knit studio can be either on a plane, in Paris, London or anywhere travel takes me to.
